Lucius S. Jones of Wendell has been elected to the board of directors of the National Conference of State Housing Boards (NCSHB), representing the governing boards of the nation’s 55 housing finance agencies.

Together, these state agencies sell bonds to finance 100,000 first-time homebuyer mortgages a year. They also manage federal tax credits that finance the development of 125,000 privately owned, affordable rental apartments a year.

Jones, a home builder and the former mayor of Wendell, previously served two terms as NCSHB president. He has served as chairman of the board of directors of the N.C. Housing Finance Agency since 1993. The self-supporting public agency has financed more than 170,000 affordable homes and apartments statewide.
